S.D. Myers Announces Expanded Services Focused On Technical Expertise

TALLMADGE, Ohio, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- S.D. Myers, Inc., (SDMI), today announced in a companywide meeting at its world headquarters in Tallmadge, Ohio, the release of an expanded services package focused on extending the life of critical electrical equipment. MaxLife, the name given to this service offering, uses both highly talented experts in the field of high-voltage maintenance and the wealth of information and historical records of over six million pieces of data from 500,000 pieces of high-voltage equipment.

SDMI has recently attracted four of the best in the industry to join or rejoin its team. Adding to the company's solid expertise are Chuck Baker, 46; Dick West, 57; Mel Wright, 60; and Leonard Fox, 56.

Baker left SDMI to run an operations group at General Electric in 2004. "SDMI has an incredible wealth of information that I don't believe can be found anywhere else," he said upon his return to SDMI in 2008.

West agrees with Baker's assessment. "No one else has the depth of data and understanding that we have at the Transformer Maintenance Institute," he said. West had worked for both GE and Ohio Transformer before returning to SDMI. The Transformer Maintenance Institute is a world-renowned training center and a subsidiary of SDMI.

Wright was hired in the early 1980s by GE to build and run an oil test lab. He became an expert in PCBs, oils and testing data. Wright joined SDMI shortly after he left GE in 2008. "Myers has always been respected because of its lab, sampling group and world-class reporting system," he said. He cited the company's full line of engineering services as being unmatched by competitors.

Fox, manager of the Electric Coil Division at SDMI, also has a lifetime of experience in the field. He previously worked for Solomon Electric, Ohio Transformer, and U.S. Transformer. A world leader in transformer diagnostics and analysis, condition assessment and life extension, SDMI also leads the industry in preparing the current and next generation substation engineers through its Transformer Maintenance Institute.

The 30-year old Institute has trained thousands of engineers and technicians in all aspects of transformer maintenance. SDMI first published the industry's authoritative Transformer Maintenance Guide in 1980. The third edition of the guide is now available in Spanish.
